Why the Northeast?

We came to Boston in August 2006, believing it would be a strategic place from which to work with college students.  In fact, the Northeast in general and Boston in particular is the most leveraged collegiate real estate in the world.

Vision for the Northeast

The states of New England plus New York make up the scope of our ministry.

Our heart is to see each and every student in this influential corner of the country hear and experience the Gospel; that everyone would know someone who truly follows Jesus Christ. Working as a Global Missions National Director for the Northeast Region, Kurt helps give lift to the 17 teams positioned throughout the Northeast.

Cru began as Campus Crusade for Christ began in 1951 to help fulfill the Great Commission. Our desire in the campus ministry is simply to put the Gospel within arms reach of every college student in the world.  Cru now has over 40,000 staff members and volunteers worldwide.

New York and New England are steeped in collegiate tradition and influence.  The region contains about 550 colleges and universities.  As home for six of the eight Ivy League campuses, as well as dozens of other prestigious academic institutions, this is a very strategic place for campus ministry.

The 2.3 million students here include many who will soon influence and lead in world business, education, government and media.  Cities like New York and Boston are magnets to hundreds of thousands of students from every state and nation. The highest ranking International scholars (106,000) flock to these schools, and often return to effect great local change in their home countries.

Beyond the diverse urban centers, the Northeast also holds many state universities and private colleges tucked away in small town places like Amherst, Mass., Syracuse, N.Y., and Burlington, Vt.

Because the Northeast may be perceived as rocky soil for the Gospel, it deeply needs to see Christ-like students and staff members. This is a region with great opportunities to exemplify faith-filled lives in innovative ways, and the staff of Cru are excited to meet and grow with Northeast students.

Currently, Cru ministries exist on one hundred Northeast campuses led by 17 “missional” staff teams.  The team strives to provide Biblical truth and encouragement to students of all ethnicities and cultures on each of these campuses, as well as establish new partnerships on every Northeast campus. The Northeast region of Cru has joined hands with hundreds of local churches, as well as sent students across the globe to locations in the Middle East,  South Africa and East Asia.
